DHAKA: In the most recent legal thorn for cricket player Shakib Al Hasan, a Bangladeshi court ordered the seizure of his assets due to his loyalty to the nation’s former leader.
Shakib was formerly a lawmaker in the party of Sheikh Hasina, the dictatorial former leader who was toppled last year in a student-led rebellion and fled to neighboring India by helicopter.
He was the focus of popular outrage due to his ties to Hasina, and dozens of people are being investigated for murder in connection with a violent police crackdown on demonstrators during the revolt.
He is being tried on fraud accusations for allegedly bouncing checks totaling over $300,000, but he has not been charged with those counts.
