Bangladesh’s army chief warned that the gains of the student-led revolution that overthrew the government last August were in jeopardy and blamed infighting for the decline in law and order on Tuesday.
With thousands of arrests made this month against groups purportedly affiliated with the party of deposed Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the South Asian country has been grappling with a spike in violent crime.
Without mentioning any specific organization by name, General Waker-Uz-Zaman warned that “the independence and integrity of the country will be at risk — I warn you — if you can’t move beyond your differences and continue meddling and fighting among yourselves.”
