Ever since its debut in 2019, city dwellers have rushed to Orchard Street’s Badgers Bar to snap a selfie with Erin, Michelle, Orla, Clare, and “the wee English fella” James from the popular comedy series on Channel 4.
The awning was installed this week with planning permission obtained in 2022; however, the local council has stated that the permission was not provided for this specific area.
According to Badger’s Bar, they won’t be speaking out about the situation in public.
It is unfortunate that the painting can no longer be viewed in the city, some visitors told News NI.
Canada’s Wayne Corcoran, originally from Newfoundland, is traveling to Ireland with pals to investigate his Irish ancestry.
“We’ve only been in Derry for a few hours, but we had to see the mural because we are big fans of the series,” he stated.
“I suppose the awning affects people’s photos, but I can also see it from the bar’s side; they want customers to spend money and enjoy their beverages outside, and I understand that because it rains a lot here.
