After being discovered in a trap set close to the store’s entrance, a bear that allegedly mauled a worker and spent three days hiding out in the supermarket was put to death.
In Akita, a 47-year-old man was mauled by the bear and sent to the hospital after suffering facial injuries and other wounds. According to the local media, his wounds weren’t life-threatening.
The Guardian said that the animal, which measured around a meter in length, was killed by licensed hunters.
The hunters initially failed to identify the bear, according to the Kyodo news agency. They set up traps at the grocery entrances where he had consumed a lot of meat.
