Two dented beer cans are on the ground in French artist Alexandre Lavet’s artwork, All the Good Times We Spent Together. They appeared to have been abandoned by construction workers and were on display in the museum’s lift.
But upon closer inspection, the LAM museum in Lisse stated that “these dented cans were meticulously hand-painted with acrylics.”
However, an elevator technician put the artwork in the trash since he believed it to be just the guests’ leftovers.
Staff members were sent to look for the artwork when a curator noticed it was missing, the museum stated on it.
It was eventually recovered in a bin bag, and “amazingly, both cans were found undamaged,” it stated.
After being cleaned, the cans were positioned at the museum’s entrance.
The museum states that it “bears no ill will towards the lift technician who made the mistake” despite the incident. The technician was filling in for someone who is “well acquainted with the building and its exhibits.”
The director of the museum, Sietske van Zanten, stated that the theme of their collection is food and consumption.
