Britain’s Edwards slashed American middleweight champion Eblen with an elbow in the second round of their Bellator middleweight world title bout in Dublin in September, leaving the American with a horrific cut above his right eye.
Edwards, 30, made his error as the cut deepened and blood began to run down the champion’s nose.
He was mistaken to believe that Eblen was defeated. A few minutes after the 32-year-old knocked him out, his teammates were assisting him to get off the canvas.
“When I cut him, I’m looking at the cut and I’m thinking ‘this fight’s done’ because it’s such a big cut,” Edwards told news Sport.
My perspective slightly shifted, and it’s evident that he did too—he started to believe that “the fight will end if I don’t do something.” At the time, it was one of those instances where the wrong choice was made.”
Edwards smiles merrily as he remembers the setback, suggesting he handled the painful event effectively.
Before Aaron Jeffrey’s title eliminator in Bellator Belfast, Fabian Edwards embarks on a “personal” mission.
When facing Johnny Eblen, Fabian Edwards can pinpoint the precise moment when things went wrong for him.
