ISLAMABAD: In an effort to finalize a plan this weekend, the Shehbaz Sharif-led administration has started preparing for crucial talks with the next International Monetary Fund (IMF) staff mission.
Seven suggestions for tax increases in different sectors are on the table if a mini-budget is presented.
But according to The News, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) intends to urge the government against hiking tax rates, pointing to indications of economic recovery and a reduction in inflationary pressures.
According to top official sources who spoke to The News on Thursday, “the government is going to firm up its strategy this weekend for holding negotiations with IMF Staff Mission, led by Nathan Porter, who are scheduled to pay a visit to Islamabad from November 11-15, 2024.”
