BEIJING: Beijing’s approach of supporting domestic AI companies that have gained international reputation was shown on Thursday when Chinese artificial intelligence startup Manus registered its China-facing AI assistant and was featured for the first time in a state media broadcast.
Chinese investors have been searching for the next homegrown startup that has the ability to upend the global tech order ever since China’s DeepSeek startled Silicon Valley by unveiling AI models that were on par with those of its US competitors but produced at a fraction of the cost.
Manus has been mentioned by some. A few weeks ago, the business released what it claimed to be the first generic AI agent in history, which caused it to become viral on X.
