KARACHI: A fresh statement from the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) highlights the possibility of a worsening drought and notable rainfall shortfalls.
This comes after a previous caution that was released on December 9, 2024.
Plain areas have not benefited much from recent rainfall, which has made matters worse as the nation struggles with increasingly severe drought conditions.
The PMD reports that Pakistan experienced a 40% below-normal rainfall deficit between September 1, 2024, and January 15, 2025, with Sindh suffering a 52% shortfall, Balochistan a 45% shortfall, and Punjab a 42% shortfall.
The PMD has identified a number of areas that are experiencing minor drought. One of the impacted areas in Punjab is the Potohar region, which includes Attock, Chakwal, Rawalpindi, and Islamabad.
