In the new documentary “The Greatest Love Story Never Told,” Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez’s relationship is once again under the spotlight, and it seems like Affleck is still grudgingly putting up with the media attention that surrounded them when they first started dating in the early 2000s.
The documentary tracks Lopez while she develops “This is Me…Now,” her new album, and “This is Me…Now: A Love Story,” a high-concept musical film.
Early in the movie, Lopez says that a stack of Affleck’s handwritten love letters served as the inspiration for her new songs, which she then showed to composers and musicians who collaborated with her.
Making a record about “the greatest love story never told” by the Oscar winner struck her as ironic.
“Jen was really inspired by this experience, which is how artists do their work,” remarked Affleck. “You are moved by their personal lives, which motivate them. As a writer and director, I am aware that I carry out similar tasks. However, I’ve always believed that certain things are precious and unique in part because they are private.
“So, this was something of an adjustment for me.”
During the documentary’s premiere earlier this week, Lopez said her spouse was only a “reluctant participant” in the entire process.
