On Tuesday, the iconic singer and his lifelong partner were awarded the 2024 Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song.
The musical duet accepted the prestigious award, named after the great songwriting partnership George and Ira Gershwin, side by side in Washington DC.
Taking the stage, Elton stated, “It’s an incredible pleasure for two British guys to be recognized like this. I’m quite honored.”
“To be in a house with the great American songwriters, to even be on the same avenue, is humbling, and I am absolutely thrilled to accept,” he said before completing his monologue.
For the unfamiliar, Elton and Bernie Taupin’s decades-long collaboration has produced countless famous successes, including Tiny Dancer, Rocket Man, Your Song, Goodbye.
The honour comes after Sir Elton John’s partner David revealed fascinating details about a potential musical during a conversation last week.
Speaking with The Sun, David said, “A catalog musical?” before adding, “We’re always looking at it.”
“I think if we wanted to do it, we would want to do it in a way that was really innovative, really exciting, and different,” he said.
