US President Joe Biden promised $225 million (£191 million) in support and expressed regret to his colleague Volodymyr Zelensky for the delays in military assistance to Ukraine.
A day after attending the D-Day landings’ 80th anniversary celebrations in Normandy, France, the two had a conversation meeting in Paris.
Ammunition and anti-aircraft missiles would be included in the new aid package, according to the US Department of Defense.
In February 2022, Russia invaded Ukraine on a large scale.
Mr. Biden reaffirmed US support for Ukraine while blaming certain Republicans in Congress for earlier funding delays.
“The US will support you,” Mr. Biden informed Mr. Zelensky. “You haven’t submitted. Not at all have you succumbed. You keep fighting in a manner.
In response, Mr. Zelensky emphasized the value of his nation’s alliance with the United States, claiming that it was essential to the war against Russia.
“It’s very important that you stay with us,” he stated. “We count on your continuing support in staying with us shoulder to shoulder.”
In a speech to the French parliament earlier in the day, Mr. Zelensky stated that Europe was “unfortunately no longer a continent of peace” because of the ongoing war with Russia.
He said that he hoped a summit held in Switzerland later this month would contribute to the war’s end.
During his visit, French President Emmanuel Macron is scheduled to meet with the president of Ukraine.
