Trump came under fire from the Democrat for allegedly threatening to “encourage” Russia to attack any NATO member that did not fulfill its defense expenditure quota.
Mr. Biden stated that the comments highlighted how urgent it is to approve a $95 billion (£75 billion) foreign aid package for US partners.
Although the law recently passed the Senate, it will encounter political resistance in the House.
Speaking at the White House on Tuesday, Mr. Biden stated that “playing into Putin’s hands” would mean that the package, which includes $60 billion for Ukraine, would not pass.
He claimed that because of Mr. Trump’s “dangerous” remarks made over the weekend, the stakes had increased.
“No other president in history has ever bowed down to a Russian dictator,” Biden stated.
“Let me state things as simply as possible. I never will. For the love of God. It’s illogical. It is deplorable. It’s risky. It’s not patriotic.”
During a rally on Saturday in South Carolina, Republican candidate Donald Trump criticized NATO countries for their “delinquent” payments.
