In response to a Wall Street Journal article regarding President Biden’s mental sharpness, the White House asked Democrats who were interviewed for the story to contact the newspaper again and refute any “false” information. A congressman who supported the president’s intelligence revealed to a reporter that he had been instructed to do so.
The Wall Street Journal published a report titled “Behind Closed Doors, Biden Shows Signs of Slipping,” which included interviews with numerous Republicans and Democrats who either attended or were informed about the 81-year-old president’s meetings with lawmakers and officials. The report detailed multiple occasions in which the president made mistakes and showed signs of low energy.
“The White House kept close tabs on some of The Wall Street Journal’s interviews with Democratic lawmakers,” according to the Journal.
Some of those members talked to the Journal again and stressed Biden’s qualities after the White House received information about the questions posed or a recording of an interview from the offices of multiple Democrats.”
In a conversation with the Journal, one Democrat, Rep. Gregory Meeks, D-N.Y., disclosed the White House’s initiatives.
