Two US officials with knowledge of the decision, as North Korean forces move to aid Moscow’s endeavor.
The decision was made as Moscow prepared to retake land by sending close to 50,000 troops to Kursk, the southern Russian area where Kyiv started its unexpected counteroffensive in the summer.
According to a US official, the weapons are currently primarily meant for use in Kursk. The US does not want to see Kursk used as a negotiating tool for the Ukrainians in any future peace negotiations, and Russia is attempting to do so with its massive force buildup there. According to the official, the goal is to assist Ukraine in retaining Kursk for as long as feasible.
