The Biden administration is seeking to expedite asylum proceedings in five major U.S. cities, despite continued criticism from mayors and other authorities about the implications of the ongoing southern border crisis.
The Departments of Justice and Homeland Security have unveiled a “Recent Arrivals (RA) Docket process” that will allow them to settle cases involving illegal immigrant single adults more rapidly.
According to the government, this will allow it to more quickly deport individuals who do not have viable asylum claims, as well as offer relief and protection to those who do. Due to the massive backlog in immigration courts, the wait time for asylum cases might now last up to seven years. The backlog has exploded in it.
