The family of a blasphemy suspect who was slain while in police custody in southwest Pakistan has expressed forgiveness for the policeman who is believed to have killed him and has decided not to file charges “in the name of God.”
Police officer Saayd Mohammad Sarhadi, posing as Ali’s relative, gained entry to the strongly guarded police station in Quetta, the provincial capital of Balochistan, where he fatally shot 52-year-old Abdul Ali, popularly known as Sakhi Lala.
Muhammad Usman, the son of Ali, sat alongside his other brother and other tribal elders at a press conference late on Wednesday and declared, “We will not fight the case.” “In the name of God, we have pardoned the police officer.”
