In the midst of Israel’s conflict with Hamas in Gaza, Secretary of State Antony Blinken delivered one of the Biden administration’s most forceful public criticisms of Israel on Sunday.
In two separate TV interviews, Blinken stated that the US wants Israeli soldiers to “leave Gaza” because of what he called “a horrible loss of innocent civilian life.” Additionally, he stated that Israel’s military strategies have not succeeded in dismantling Hamas and may leave a “vacuum” of leadership in the Palestinian territories.
Regarding the United States not supplying Israel, an ally of the United States, with high-payload bombs, Blinken responded, “We believe two things.” First and foremost, you need a solid plan that is credible and well-defined—something we haven’t seen. Secondly, we must also observe a strategy for what.
