He passed away in October 2023, reportedly 31 years and 165 days old.
Nonetheless, uncertainty regarding the Portuguese dog’s true age prompted the GWR to open an investigation on him last month.
The National Union of Veterinarians and the Portuguese government’s pet database seemed to have verified his birth, but yet, the investigation was launched.
Bobi was a purebred Rafeiro do Alentejo, a livestock guardian dog breed with a 12- to 14-year lifespan on average.
Bobi beat the record set in 1939 by an Australian cow dog who passed away at the age of 29 years and five months when she was crowned the oldest dog in the world.
