Following the toppling of President Bashar al-Assad, Syrian rebel fighters claim to have discovered over 40 dead in the mortuary of a military hospital in a Damascus suburb that exhibit evidence of torture.
Images and video captured bodies piled inside a refrigerated room at Harasta Hospital on Monday, draped in white shrouds splattered with blood.
The faces and torsos of several of the deceased seemed to be bruised and injured. There were additional bits of sticky tape with names and numbers on them.
Mohammed al-Hajj, a rebel from southern Syria, told a news agency, “I opened the mortuary’s door with my own hands, it was a horrific sight.”
Accounts of individuals imprisoned underground in the infamous Saydnaya jail in Syria.
