The Brutalist’s director, Brady Corbet, has responded to criticism about the film’s use of artificial intelligence to improve Adrien Brody and Felicity Jones’ Hungarian accents.
“Adrien and Felicity’s performances are entirely their own,” Corbet told Variety about this. To improve their accents, they spent months working with dialect coach Tanera Marshall.
Furthermore, he added, “Only dialogue editing in the Hungarian language uses Innovative Respeecher technology, specifically to improve the correctness of specific vowels and letters. The English language remained unchanged.
Corbet stressed that the procedure was carried very carefully when he said, “This was a manual process, done by our sound team and Respeecher in post-production,” according to US Weekly.
