According to four government sources, Brazil’s BRICS presidency this year will not push for a unified currency among the main developing nations, but its agenda might lead to decreased reliance on the US dollar in international commerce.
U.S. President Donald Trump might take offense at that plan, as he has twice in recent months cautioned the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, and China) alliance not to undermine the hegemony of “the mighty U.S. Dollar.”
“The U.S. dollar will never be replaced by BRICS in international trade or anywhere else, and any nation that attempts to do so should bid America farewell and welcome tariffs!” Last month, Trump posted on social media.
In order to discuss plans, the Brazilian authorities want to remain anonymous.
