On the social networking network X, Ben Trueman posted: “I have some awful news. Brian Trueman, my father, passed away after 92 years of a good life. A career in radio and television that featured shows including Brass Tacks, Screen Test, Granada Reports, Scene at 6.30, Children’s Hour, and Clitheroe Kid.”
He continued, describing his father as “clever, funny, resilient, an absolute gentleman” and possibly best known for being the performer and creator of the films Danger Mouse, Count Duckula, Jamie and the Magic Torch, Cockleshell Bay, Chorlton and the Wheelies, and others.
Of such programs, Carry On with David Jason, star of Only Fools & Horses, and Danger Mouse were the primary characters.
With Scott portraying his unfortunate sidekick, Penfold, Jason played the fearless hero who dubbed himself the “world’s greatest secret agent”.
Trueman’s IMDb website lists him as having contributed to 79 episodes of the original Danger Mouse series.
The news revived the program from 2015 until 2019, after it ran from 1981 to 1992.
Moreover, he was given credit for writing 11 episodes of the animated series Count Duckula, which followed the adventures of a vegetarian vampire who was obsessed with fame and fortune.
