Brigitte Garcia, the youngest mayor of Ecuador, and Jairo Loor, her director of communications, were discovered dead in a car by the side of the road in the Manabi province, according to local authorities.
According to police, Garcia, 27, the mayor of San Vicente, and Loor were shot and killed on Sunday, Fox News said.
The national police’s preliminary investigation indicates that the gunfire appeared to originate from within the rental car, which was equipped with a GPS system that was being monitored.
The national police stated that they are looking into the eaths more.
Rafael Correa, the former president of Ecuador, and Luisa Gonzalez, the party’s presidential candidate, called the killing of the member of their party, the Citizen Revolution Movement, an assassination.
Gonzalez wrote on X, the former Twitter platform, “I’ve just found out they’ve assassinated our fellow mayor of San Vicente, Brigitte Garcia.”
“I have no words, in shock, nobody is safe in Ecuador, NOBODY,” she stated in a letter.
The Municipality of San Vicente was shocked to learn about Garcia’s passing.
