Off the shore of the island of Koh Tao, a boat caught fire and sank, leaving a British tourist missing in Thailand.
Alexandra Clarke, 26, of Lambeth, south London, was on board when the fire broke out in the ship’s engine room on Sunday at 9:00 ITC (02:00 GMT), according to the Surat Thani Provincial Public Relations Office.
According to Koh Tao Police, they think the boat caught fire after its gasoline tank overflowed during the trip. Officers have accused the crew and captain of being careless.
“We are in contact with local authorities and are providing support to the family of a British woman who went missing in Thailand,” a Foreign Office official stated.
