Since June 2022, BT’s EE and Plusnet businesses have made more than 1.3 million sales without providing clients with a contract summary and information materials, affecting at least 1.1 million customers, according to news.
This meant that BT violated consumer protection regulations that went into force in 2022. They are designed to provide clients with clear, comparable information about the services they are contemplating purchasing.
“It’s unacceptable that BT couldn’t get its act together in time, and the company must now pay a penalty for its failings,” said Ofcom enforcement director Ian Strawhorne.
