LAHORE: Bushra Bibi, the third former first lady after Begum Nusrat Bhutto and Begum Kulsoom Nawaz, is spearheading the effort to free her husband, Imran Khan, the founder and chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), who is detained alongside Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Nawaz Sharif, the other two former prime ministers.
People who have witnessed the history, however, are most struck by the question of whether Bushra Bibi can match the struggle of those two former first ladies of Pakistan, one of whom failed to save her husband from execution in 1979 and the other of whom was able to secure her husband’s release from detention in 2000 through a pardon agreement.
