According to The Sunday Telegraph, military officials are under pressure to build a weapon that can fly faster than Mach 5, or five times the speed of sound, in order to catch up to China, Russia, and the US.
By 2030, the missile should be in service and designed and manufactured in the United Kingdom, according to the Ministry of Defence.
The journal stated that plans are preliminary and that it is unclear if the missile will be launched from the air, sea, or land.
It follows Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s promise to allocate 2.5% of GDP on defense.
