ISLAMABAD: The federal cabinet on Thursday gave its approval to a proposal aiming to boost future import volume through the Gwadar port by fifty percent.
Accepting the Ministry of Maritime Affairs’ recommendation, the cabinet ordered all government agencies to use Gwadar port for 50% of their imports, including wheat, sugar, and fertilizer.
To provide the cabinet with a quarterly report on imports and exports via the Gwadar port, a subcommittee will be established in this respect.
The prime minister, Shehbaz Sharif, presided over the meeting today.
The prime minister gave orders in August to expand Gwadar port operations by utilizing the port to handle 50% of all public sector cargo that is transported inland by sea.
