ISLAMABAD: On the suggestion of the Ministry of Law and Justice, the Criminal Procedure (Code of Criminal Procedure) Amendment Bill 2024 was passed by the federal cabinet.
The approval was made at Tuesday’s PM House cabinet meeting, which was presided over by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. According to a press statement from the PM Office Media Wing, a number of significant choices were made this time.
The CrPC amendment seeks to streamline the first information report (FIR) registration process, permit the use of contemporary technology in investigations and forensic techniques, and permit the audio-video recording of witness statements.
Additionally, the amendment law contained clauses that strengthened the prosecutor’s involvement during investigations. The prosecutor will have the ability to highlight any shortcomings or imperfections.
