The Modern Slavery & Exploitation Helpline received 11,700 calls in 2023 compared to 9,779 in 2022, a rise of more than 19%, according to the anti-slavery nonprofit Unseen.
The most common type of exploitation, labor abuse, increased by 11% from 464 instances in 2022 to 516 cases in 2023.
There was a 30% increase in potential victims reported in the care sector, from 708 in 2022 to 918 in 2023.
Additionally, the number of people who could be exploited by criminals increased by 21% to 385 in 2023.
