The West Bank’s “extremist” Israeli settlers became the target of Canada’s first-ever penalties on Thursday. The country’s foreign ministry also announced that more steps were being considered to prevent settlement violence against Palestinians.
The United States and Britain are among the allies that have imposed similar sanctions on Canada. The penalties are directed at four people who are allegedly involved in direct or indirect acts of violence against Palestinians and their property.
The foreign ministry released a statement saying that the sanctions forbid transactions involving the individuals and make them ineligible for entry into Canada.
