OTTAWA: Despite “breaks for certain sectors,” Prime Minister Justin Trudeau stated Thursday that Canada will remain engaged in a trade war with the United States (US) for “the foreseeable future.”
In an attempt to prevent the two countries from engaging in what he described as an “unjustified” trade war, Trudeau stated, “Our goal remains to get these tariffs, all tariffs removed,” the day after making an urgent contact with US President Donald Trump.
He said he was still in talks with the Trump administration.
“As I’ve said a number of times, we will not be backing down from our response tariffs until such a time as the unjustified American tariffs on Canadian goods are lifted,” he stated.
