According to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Canada would respond “firm and clear” to the most recent trade restrictions that US President Donald Trump has announced.
Both parties have one month to negotiate after Trump announced he would impose a 25% import tax on all steel and aluminum goods coming into the US on March 12. The United States’ biggest exporter of both metals is Canada.
Trump has imposed a variety of these tariffs since taking office again last month in an effort to defend American businesses and employment. According to economists, they will probably result in higher costs for regular Americans.
Trudeau declared that the latest tariffs were “entirely unjustified” as Canada was plunged into its second trade stalemate with Washington in as many weeks.
