Consumers said they were having trouble paying for their gas and groceries.
Sainsbury’s just turned me away because they don’t take credit cards,” Vanessa Meehan claimed in Twickenham.
“The gas station was closed as well. I have to obtain supplies because the automobile is running on fumes.”
The store acknowledged that this morning’s “briefly unavailable” contactless payments were a problem, but it has since been fixed.
A Sainsbury’s representative told News, “This was due to an issue with our third-party payment provider.”
As per usual, we’re taking all payments and keeping an eye on the matter. We apologize for any trouble that this may have brought about.”
One Sainsbury’s store had a sign asking consumers to pay with cash for their purchases.

According to Asda, its payment systems are operational again after experiencing brief problems with Visa.
