KARACHI: Local police claimed to have apprehended the ‘murderer’ of an eight-year-old kid, Abhan Mazhar, as well as recovered the murder weapon, Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) Central Zeeshan Siddiqui said on Friday.
On Wednesday, a police squad discovered the small kid gravely injured in Federal B Area Block 16 under the Yousuf Plaza police station’s jurisdiction. Abhan died from his injuries after being transferred to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.
The police officer revealed that the suspect, Sufyan, was the slain boy’s cousin and aged between 14 and 15. “The suspect confessed to killing the boy as he was scolded many times by his uncle (his mother’s brother) over the complaints of Abhan.”
Sufyan confessed that he picked up Abhan from his home and slit his throat with a knife. He also informed authorities that he was alone when he murdered his cousin and washed the knife before returning it to the kitchen.
I made a mistake. “I was angry because he complained about me to uncle [victim’s father],” the suspect explained. When asked why he took this step, the suspect stated that his uncle used to reprimand him.
SSP Siddiqui stated that Abhan’s parents had assigned suspect Sufyan the responsibility of caring for him when they were out from home for work.
The officer stated that further inquiry was being undertaken to determine the truth behind the crime.
