According to information obtained by News, the CBI has contacted a few members of its trade organization to see if they would be interested in leasing a portion of the 25,000-square-foot Cannon Place office that it moved into in 2014.
According to sources, the talks were just getting started, and it was unclear how they would turn out.
The CBI has closed the majority of its abroad offices and laid off a sizable portion of its workers since its near-insolvency last year, which was brought on by a corporate exodus that was appalled by a sexual misconduct scandal.
After being initially excluded from interactions with government ministers and officials, the self-described “voice of business” has started to acquire clout in recent months.
This month, news broke that KPMG and NatWest Group were among the members who had returned to the organization.
Its finances are still precarious, though, as the CBI depends on a multimillion-pound overdraft from several high street banks.
