Legal challenges have been made in both the Supreme Court and the Sindh High Court regarding the Supreme Court Practice and Procedure Amendment Act.
Advocate Chaudhry Ehtishamul Haq filed a petition in the Supreme Court for a declaration of unconstitutionality for the ordinance. The petition demands that all actions conducted in accordance with the ordinance be declared void and contends that the legislation’s promulgation is against parliamentary democracy.
Citing a prior Supreme Court ruling that ordinances should only be issued in emergency situations, the petitioner also asked the court to halt the ordinance until a decision is made on the case.
