The Green Shirts, the 2017 winners, will play New Zealand in the opening match of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 at the National Stadium in Karachi on Wednesday, marking Pakistan’s hosting of the first major cricket event in nearly thirty years.
At 2:00 PM PST, the match’s opening ball will be bowled.
The latest ICC event to be held in Pakistan was the ICC Cricket World Cup 1996, which ended with Sri Lanka defeating Australia by seven wickets in the final at the Gaddafi Stadium.
After terrorists attacked a bus carrying Sri Lanka’s squad in Lahore in 2009, killing eight police officers and civilians and injuring other players, Pakistan was declared off-limits to international teams.
