Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif opened the recently refurbished Gaddafi Stadium on Friday, ushering in a new era in the venerable cricket stadium’s 65-year existence only days before the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025 began.
The premier expressed gratitude to Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, contractors, and employees for finishing the Gaddafi Stadium refurbishment in Lahore in a “almost impossible” record 117 days.
Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, he requested that Naqvi, who is also the interior minister, show gratitude to the workers who helped renovate the stadium by bringing them to London.
