The chancellor informed lawmakers over and again that “if we cannot afford it, we cannot do it,” adding that individuals who are not receiving pension credit will no longer receive the additional funds.
The chancellor further declared that the incoming administration would not pursue the adult social care billing reforms that the previous government had postponed. This will result in savings of over £1 billion by the end of the following year.
According to Ms. Reeves, all departments have been requested to identify savings of an estimated £3 billion, while other initiatives, such as Boris Johnson’s.
The chancellor blamed the previous administration for her actions, saying the Conservatives “let people down” by committing to “commitment after commitment without knowing where the money was going to come from”.
She said, “Today, I’m calling out the Conservatives’ cover-up, and I’m starting the process of cleaning up what they left behind.”
