Since Chappell Roan demanded improved rights for musicians at the Grammys, a charity that supports the mental health of artists says it has been “blown away” by the support it has received.
The Pink Pony Club hitmaker gave $25,000 (£20,000) to the US charity Backline following an emotional on-stage speech when accepting her Best New Artist award.
A music executive’s blog calling Chappell’s statement “misinformed” sparked a wave of additional support, charity director Hilary Gleason told newsbeat.
“We really appreciate her using that moment to call for action to change the music industry,” she adds.
Backline claims that Monday was their “single biggest fundraising day,” with singers Charli XCX and Noah Kahan matching Chappell’s donation.
