The AI chatbot, when questioned by journalists from News about “Who won the UK general election 2024?” responded, “The UK general election of 2024, held on July 4, resulted in a significant victory for the Labour Party.”
Despite being asked the same question several times and in different ways, the OpenAI-developed chatbot consistently responded with the same response: Labour had won the election.
Usually, it elaborated on its response, providing background information for an illusory victory.
“Under the leadership of Keir Starmer, Labour secured a substantial majority in the House of Commons, marking a dramatic turnaround from their previous poor performance in the 2019 election.
It said in a single response that was given several times.
“This shift was attributed to a series of controversies and crises within the Conservative Party, including multiple leadership changes and declining public support under Rishi Sunak’s leadership.”
This specific response was taken from Wikipedia and a New Statesman piece that predicts the winner of the general election on July 4.
Simultaneously posed with the same query as ChatGPT, other AI chatbots declined to respond.
Google’s AI Llama 2 replied, saying, “It should be made clear that the UK General Election of 2024 has not yet occurred. The UK is scheduled to hold its next general election in 2024, having held its most recent one in December 2019.
