Due to concerns expressed within the cabinet and extensive criticism from stakeholders, the federal government has postponed the implementation of its contentious decision to drastically reduce the buyback rates for solar net metering.
Experts warned of dire financial repercussions for solar consumers and the renewable energy industry as a result of the decision to lower the buyback cost from Rs 27 per unit to Rs 10.
The Power Division has now been instructed by the federal cabinet, which is led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, to review the policy and carry out more discussions prior to completing the updated framework.
