Spokesman for China’s foreign ministry Mao Ning said she was unaware of allegations that Chinese citizens’ movements would be restricted by Pakistani authorities during the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit next week due to a potential security concern from militant organizations targeting them.
Given the ongoing security concerns in the area, all foreign residents of Punjab, including Chinese nationals, were subject to an increased level of security last week.
Muntazar Mehdi, the Special Protection Unit’s deputy inspector general (DIG) in Lahore, issued an order enforcing the security recommendation.
