He said that cholera was well-bred in some densely populated urban areas due to poor sanitation.
Residents should move to rural locations with plenty of space and “perfect sanitation” in order to relieve traffic in big centers, Mr. Hichilema continued.
Since October of last year, more than 7,500 cases of cholera have been documented nationwide.
The health ministry reported that over 500 new cases and 17 deaths occurred in the past 24 hours.
As a precautionary measure, there has been a delay in school resumption.
So far, eight of Zambia’s ten provinces have been affected by the disease.
Approximately one million doses of the cholera vaccine will be sent by the World Health Organization (WHO) in the next few days in an attempt to restrict the outbreak.
