The “Dead to Me” actress talked candidly about her ongoing mental health issues and the reasons behind why she “doesn’t enjoy living” in a new edition of “MeSsy,” the podcast she co-hosts with Jamie-Lynn Sigler.
Applegate revealed the initial diagnosis of the chronic illness in 2021. “I’m in a depression right now, which I don’t think I’ve felt that for years,” she stated. It’s frightening me a little bit because it seems so fatalistic, like a real, f— it all depression. Right now, I’m stuck in such darkness that I haven’t felt like… I’m not really sure how long it has been, possibly 20 or so.
This is a sincere statement. I find life to be boring. It’s not fun for me. I no longer find things enjoyable,” she continued.
The episode was recorded soon after Applegate’s January Emmy Awards appearance, a spokeswoman for Applegate confirmed to News.
Sigler, who received an MS diagnosis more than 20 years ago, acknowledged this and encouraged Applegate to focus on the good.
“Living with a crippled body is really difficult. It is really challenging. I am right there with you and I won’t take that away from you,” she remarked. However, the comparison to the past makes it more difficult. When we reach a point where we both acknowledge that this is how things are going to happen.
