ISLAMABAD—The News said Tuesday that the Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) has proposed changes to the Dowry and Bridal Gift Act that would increase the maximum penalty for violators from six months to a year in prison.
At its 239th meeting on Monday, the CII also suggested raising the dowry cap from Rs 5,000 to two tolas of gold and raising the marriage costs from Rs 2,500 to the amount equal to the same amount of hold.
Regarding the family law amendments, the group also urged making the notification of three divorces in a single sitting a crime.
