In order to reduce the strain on the shelter system, a number of progressive cities and states have been extending their approaches to handling the influx of migrants within their borders. One such approach is to ask locals to assist in housing immigrants.
Local media outlets were recently informed by Denver officials that the city is searching for alternate housing options for migrants. According to news, the city recently sent emails to owners of rental properties in Denver, asking if they would be willing to rent to homeless migrants.
It occurs at the same time as the city is trying to combine shelters and cut back on migrant services in an effort to save the budget deficit by over $60 million.
Cities and governments with more liberal policies request that private homes accommodate migrants in large quantities.
