The ADB noted in an urban development analysis included in the “Pakistan National Urban Assessment Report,” which was released on Monday, that the majority of urban centers do not have a defined downtown area to support and promote social, cultural, and economic activities. Urban centers’ few remaining green spaces are vanishing, and any greening initiatives are mostly centered in wealthy neighborhoods.
It also noted that, thanks to the politician-developer relationship, public space has been steadily decreasing as a result of the rising sale of public property brought on by the high commercial value of urban land and the expanding financial needs of urban authorities.
According to ADB Country Director Emma Xiaoqin Fan, who introduced the research, Pakistan’s fast urban population increase is making urbanization more difficult.
